We live in such confusing days of uncertainty and insecurity! Few people truly know what they believe and why they believe it. There was a time when nearly every Christian knew the fundamentals of their faith. Many worship services used to include the citing of The Apostles’ Creed. Such formalities have been exchanged for lights and music to entertain and move emotions. Consequently, emotions are often left behind when we leave the building, and the underpinnings of our faith are subject to the whims and influences of movements more directed toward worldly mindsets than biblical truths!
Dr. Albert Mohler says this about the significant loss of familiarity with the Apostles’ Creed: “A cultural revolution has swept across the West, blurring the lines between reality and fiction. Entire Christian denominations have capitulated to the whims of this revolution and surrendered the fundamental truths of their faith. In this surrender these churches have lost their identity as God’s people. All churches, therefore, must recapture and reinvigorate their zeal for all the doctrines contained in the Apostles’ Creed.”
With Unchanging Truths: A Guide to the Apostles’ Creed, Dr. McElwain gives us a remarkably effective means to accomplish exactly that. Phrase by phrase, word by word, concept by concept, and truth by truth he dissects this powerful and critical bedrock creed of our beliefs, and sheds light on their meaning and purpose in our Christian lives. This book will provide rich and edifying personal study, as well as great inspiration and study material for pastors, small group leaders and discipleship! Thank you Dr. McElwain, for helping us return to this essential statement of our Christian Faith and providing the inspiration to embrace and proclaim it anew!
